Special Olympics Ontario/London is dedicated to enriching the lives of Londoners with an intellectual disability through sport. Over the past 49 years, Special Olympics has grown from a modest program serving local athletes to become the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sports. Special Olympics Ontario has optimized the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle through sport to improve the well-being of individuals with an intellectual disability.
"Creating an inclusive society means leaving no group behind. People with an intellectual disability (ID) know all too well the feeling of isolation and Special Olympics is working to ameliorate this. Special Olympics is more than just sport. For many people with ID, it is their social outlet as well as where they are encouraged to learn about and live healthier lives . Special Olympics Ontario-London is entirely volunteer run, meaning all funds raised directly support programs for people with ID in our community. During these challenging times of Covid, Special Olympics is working on innovative ways to connect their participants to ensure they stay as connected and as involved as possible."
