The Marathon of Hope The first Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 with the simple objective of informing Canadians of the importance of finding a cure for cancer. With fierce determination, Terry Fox ran an average of 42km every day for 143 days, until he was forced to end his run on September 1, 1980, when the cancer spread to his lungs. By February 1, 1981, Terry’s dream of raising $1 for every Canadian was realized – the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope fund totalled $24.17 million.
"Justin was an incredible father, teacher, coach, friend etc. Anyone who knew him saw how awesome he was. He brought so much joy to everyone around him and made just a huge impact on so many lives. He was taken way too early by pancreatic cancer. Justin was an avid Terry Fox supporter. This is a great cause and is an amazing way to honour one amazing man."
