‘Showdown in the Downtown’
Every “Showdown” in the past has been a special extravaganza and 2018 was no exception. This annual event is aimed at raising funds for the fight against kidney disease and improving patient outcomes after solid organ transplantation. All the money raised supports: The Lilibeth Caberto Kidney Clinical Research Unit, Matthew Mailing Centre for Translational Studies, Mary J. Wright Research and Educational Centre, and London Health Sciences Surgical Epilepsy Program.
More than 2 million Canadians suffer from kidney failure or kidney-related disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney stones. The number of Canadians on dialysis will double in the next 10 years and more than 3000 Canadians are already on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. But with generous and ongoing support from amazing sponsors, the ‘Showdown in the Downtown’ 2018 event was able to raise $210,000 and has now exceeded 1.9 million dollars in the fight against Kidney Disease.
Thanks to these donations, more research projects can be carried out to help prevent people from developing kidney disease, improve accessibility to kidney transplantation and improve the well-being of patients with kidney disease. The 2019 Showdown in the Downtown event will take place on Saturday, September 28th. We look forward to making it an even greater success with your help!
