Towing places a unique series of demands on everything from the suspension system to the transmission. Suburban is engineered to master those demands effortlessly. The maximum towing capacity for Suburban 1500 ranges up to 3,674 kg (8,100 lb). For Suburban 2500, the number sets the standard for the class, with a maximum trailer weight rating of 4,355 kg (9,600 lb).** And for 2012, the standard 6-speed automatic transmission now includes electronic sway control and hill hold assist. That's on top of existing features like Tow/Haul mode and automatic grade braking. The SUV that remains the undisputed king of towing: Suburban.

 

 

No Other SUV Holds More**

 

Other vehicles provide seating for up to nine, but what distinguishes Suburban is its ability to transport cargo. Even with a full house on board, there's a 1,297L (45.8 cu. ft.) of rear cargo room. Have a bigger load? No problem. Fold down the second-row seat and remove the third-row to open up 3,891L (137.4 cu. ft.) of space - more than any other vehicle in its class.** The versatility doesn't end there. LTZ models feature a power release fold-and-tumble second-row seat with heated outboard seating positions. Luxury. Comfort. And utility. All in one.

 

 

 

Power Well Managed

 

Power in a truck with the capacities of Suburban is a prerequisite. Suburban has it covered with a 320 hp VortecTM 5.3L V8 on 1500 models and a 352 hp VortecTM 6.0L V8 on 2500s. Clearly, power alone in this day and age isn't enough. So you'll be pleased to note that Suburban also incorporates a series of distinct fuel-efficiency technologies. The 5.3L engine features Active Fuel Management® that shuts down half the cylinders when power demands are low. Both engines include Variable Valve Timing (VVT) that optimizes combustion timing to boost output while enhancing fuel efficiency. And the 6-speed automatic transmission includes two overdrive gears, also helping to increase fuel efficiency even further.

 

 

See It - Believe It

 

The more you see - the more potential hazards you can avoid. That is a fundamental principle behind Suburban's electronic technology. An ultrasonic rear parking assist is standard on LT and LTZ models. An available Rear Vision Camera gives you another set of eyes when backing up. And for 2012, a new Side Blind Zone Alert system is standard on LTZ. It employs radar technology to scan both sides of the vehicle. When another vehicle enters these zones, it triggers an LED alert in the appropriate exterior rear-view mirror.
