Yesterday morning - April 26th - a massive crowd descended up the London Convention Centre to celebrate those making great strides to advance mental health in London and the surrounding region. The event - called the Breakfast of Champions - was put on by the St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Assocation of Middlesex and drew a crowd of approximately 1,250 people!

Finch Auto Group was proud to serve as a Lead Sponsor for the event and a team of Auto Group Employees were on hand to take part in this empowering and important event.

The Breakfast of Champions began with a delicious breakfast provided by the good folks at the Convention Centre before turning to the more important matters at hand. First we recognized local individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions in mental health. This gave way to the keynote address by Sue Klebold, mother of one of the two shooters at Columbine High School.

Sue Klebold, Mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine ShootersKlebold has spent the last 17 years trying to understand why her son participated in a shooting that killed thirteen people before taking his own life. She opened up about her journey after tragedy and how it’s led her to become a passionate mental health advocate, sharing her story in a conversation with Heather Hiscox, morning host of CBC News Network.

If you are interested in learning more about Sue's fascinating, tragic and uplifting story, we strongly recommend that you buy her new book, A Mother's Reckoning, wherever books are sold.

The event closed with a half-hour panel featuring Sue along with a group of local mental health advocates providing answers to some of the tough questions regarding the importance of de-stigmatizing Mental Health disorders in our region.

In the end, this was a hugely informative and empowering event that provided important insights into mental health issues that affect 1 in 5 Canadians. Finch Auto Group was so proud to be involved with such a noble cause and we were happy to be in attendance in order to grow in our understanding of mental health issues in our area!
